A Doctor’s View on Preventative Aesthetics & Ageing Well

Maintaining your complexion and appearance as you age is not easy. Inevitably, you won’t look as young as you once did, no matter what you do. But there are many ways in which you can look far better than you otherwise might.

Among the best ways to age well is to take pre-emptive action with your aesthetic regimen. That means taking action before you start to see wrinkles, crow’s feet and other blemishes.

The key point is to understand that using dermal filler treatments, anti-wrinkle injections, micro-needling and other facial treatments should not wait until there is a problem to correct; instead, by acting as you age, you can get ahead and use them as a form of preventative aesthetics.

Indeed, you could justifiably apply the phrase “prevention is better than cure” to the concept. It is something that we already do more than we think, using beauty treatments and skincare products for many years.

Examples of this include:

Facials

Skincare routines

Suncream

Why Should You Get Facial Treatments Before The First Wrinkles Appear?

However, these are basic daily things which, while beneficial, do not go as far as professionally-delivered aesthetic treatments.

The use of preventative aesthetics at younger ages has been growing in recent years as the benefits of starting early have become better understood.

A key point is that the use of fillers and micro-needling can be undertaken as early as your 20s and 30s. They won’t prevent lines and wrinkles from appearing forever, but they will delay them by years.

If ever you needed a good reason to start early, consider the case of anti-wrinkle treatmen. This involves the injection of a modified botulinum toxin that blocks chemical signals that enable muscles to move, stiffening the area where the injection has taken place.

Anti-wrinkle treatment is commonly used to prevent wrinkles, but the problem with waiting for these to arise before getting treatment is that they will be deeper and more established, making the treatment less effective as you reach middle age.

By contrast, having the treatment at a younger age helps to ensure the benefits of firmer muscles are already in place, preventing the development of loose skin and deep lines for much longer.

Best of all, the benefits of earlier treatments mean there is less to do when you are older, with shorter appointments and a lower cost too.

What Lifestyle Steps Can Complement

Preventative Aesthetics?

Put together, it all makes sense, but it is important to note that while getting these treatments at a younger age will pay dividends for you as you get older and enables you to maintain a more youthful effect for longer, they cannot do the whole job on their own.

Complementary steps you can take to help to maintain your complexion involve good, healthy living habits. These can include simple things such as:

Getting enough sleep

A healthy diet

Plenty of exercise to keep you looking fit and feeling energetic

Some of the benefits of these are obvious. For example, a healthy diet can do a lot to keep skin healthy and keep wrinkles at bay for longer.

Therefore, eating food with lots of lean protein, vitamins A, C and E, good fats, zinc, flavonoids and selenium will help a great deal.

With the right combination of basic skincare, a healthy lifestyle and the pre-emptive use of preventative aesthetics, you can age far better than your peers.
